This is for my family and friends who don't care about homeschooling, which is probably most of you.
We kicked off our summer break with a trip to the shores of Lake Erie, about 2.5 hours from our home. It was a pretty breezy day, so there were some great waves for the kids to play in.
Sariah looked angelic in a new dress:
One day, we surprised Preston and took him miniature golfing--his favorite activity.
Dallin enjoyed a week at Boy Scout camp.
We got rained on during the July 4th parade, but it was still fun. Mom and Dad and Dallin worked concessions for our scout troop most of the day.
A friend invited us to dress up like cows and get a free meal at Chick-fil-A.
Dallin applied his chalkboard drawing skills in honor of his favorite soccer player.
Sariah had a birthday!
And then we went on a trip across the country. Let it be known that missing one's relations in the West is the only worthwhile reason for being willing to drive across the country with three children in tow.
We stopped at Liberty Jail in Missouri, which is a very meaningful historical site for our Church.
Dallin got the see the hospital where he was born when we stopped in Colorado.
Dallin got to celebrate his birthday at grandma's house.
Sariah's special treat was getting her ears pieced by one of our dear friends who owns a salon in Utah.
Dallin completed one of his life-long goals: hiking "Y" mountain in Provo, Utah.
Unfortunately, I didn't get many more pictures while we were actually out West, so hopefully my lovely family will send me some. I just never seemed to have my camera with me at the right times.
On the way home, we stopped at the Mormon Trail visitor's center in Nebraska.
Learning how to pack a wagon.
Pulling a handcart.
Checking out a replica ship's berth.
Pulling a handcart again--this time while appropriately dressed.
Crossing the Mississippi at Rock Island, Illinois--the first time we've seen it without cloud cover.
At Lake Michigan in Chicago.
Chicago skyline.
One week after getting back from Utah, we were intrepid enough to venture to the other side of our state, to Philadelphia. Just because we love to travel with kids sooooo much.
At the Liberty Bell.
Independence Hall.
This is a dorky picture, but it was so AMAZING to be in the very room where the Declaration of Independence was signed and the Constitution was adopted.
George Washington's own chair there at the front.
We were able to tour our own new LDS (Mormon) temple in Philly.
Our family in front of the temple.
It was 100 degrees outside that day and soooo humid. We hung out with our cousins from North Carolina (whom we had not seen in at least 7 years) at the Spruce Street Harbor Park in Philly. Sariah said later, "Mom, I think everything would have been more fun if it wasn't so hot."
