Candlemas, Groundhog Day, whatever you want to call it... it marks the halfway point of winter. Lucky for us, it really was the halfway point and now that we're almost done with March, winter seems to have said goodbye for real. For Candlemas, we dipped candles for the first time in our own. (We've done it before with a homeschool group.) Other than the insane beeswax mess, which took me a good month to completely eradicate from my kitchen floor, the activity was a huge, fun success.
Preston was done after two candles, but Sariah dipped and dipped and dipped to her heart's content.
Now we have a story time stash to last us a good, long while.
This was our amazing early February weather!
February was also our measurement & money math block for Sariah. I didn't get a ton of pictures, but there are a few scattered here.

Sariah's big news for February is that she got glasses! She's actually near-sighted and needs them only for reading.
The weather was amazing again the day we went outside to measure the length of Noah's ark. It is from this point just past our house to the end of our road, which you can't really see in the picture because of the hilliness. (I was proud of myself--I estimated right on.)
Despite the look on her face, Sariah really did have fun the day we practiced math facts by having her jump on the trampoline to erase the answers from the board.
The snow returned, of course... but at least the sky was blue this day.

We had fun with this balance scale that came with our Math by Hand kit.
We incorporated the Old Testament story of Noah into this measurement block and had fun modelling the ark and some of the animals.
All Sariah's choice--giraffes, snails, skunks, mice, and monkeys.
We ended with the story of the Tower of Babel and modeled that out of clay.
