Over the past six months, Dallin and I have read together four WONDERFUL books that I must highly recommend. Does anyone else lament the lack of really good, quality, wholesome children's literature, especially for boys? Is anyone else sick of Flat Stanley, Goosebumps, and various other books involving either gore, grossness, toilet jokes, ghostly horrors, or just plain boring, lame plots and characters?

These four books are by Eleanor Estes, written in the 1940s and set in the 1910s and 20s. They are about the gentle but hilarious adventures of kids in small-town America. There is absolutely nothing for moms to worry about in the content, yet they are interesting and exciting enough for almost-8-year-old boys to enjoy. Girls would love them too!
The Moffatts are a family with a widowed mom and four children, just having simple but funny adventures during World War I. Rufus M features the 7-year-old brother. There are one or two more volumes about other members of the family.
Ginger Pye and Pinky Pye are about another family, the Pyes, and their pets. These two books both involve a bit of mystery.Well, look no more!
