Last night, we went to the local rodeo for the first time, and that was a blast too. It was the first time I'd been to a rodeo. Dallin insists that it was his second time. He says he went to a rodeo when he was in his birthmom's tummy. He thinks this is the case because we told him his birthmom lives in Wyoming in a town that is known for its cowboys. I have never heard anything about his birthmom going to a rodeo during her pregnancy, and she wasn't even living in Wyoming at that time, but hey, maybe Dallin's remembers something we don't know about.
Both kids loved the rodeo! Sariah even lasted 2.5 hours before she got tired of running around on the bleachers. We came early enough to watch the little kids and the muttin bustin', which was pretty hilarious. Sariah fell asleep on the way home, and when we got back to our house, she groggily awoke and without missing a beat exclaimed, "Horsies! Funny! Sheep! Kids... fall!... funny!"
We have a great little parade here which is short on floats, but very long on horses, trucks, kids riding ATV's and lots and lots of candy. This morning, we asked Sariah if she were excited to go to the parade and get some candy. She replied, "No! Gum!" She must have had a premonition, because almost the first thing that got thrown to her was gum. We lucked out to get a spot right in front of a tree, and that combined with the cloud cover and the parade starting at 9:00 am meant that the weather was quite pleasant--not too hot at all.
After the parade, we headed over to the city park for all sorts of festivities.
Horse riding is our other annual small-town tradition. We pay $5 apiece for the kids to have a pony ride, and it's the highlight of the 4th. Dallin was excited because he got to trot and he rode with one hand like a real cowboy.
Sariah LOVED riding the pony! As soon as she saw the horses, she could not be kept away. The people who were assisting got a kick out of her because she was so funny about it. When she saw this picture on the computer, she just about went nuts: "Oh!!! Horsies!!! Horsies!!! I ride horsies!!!" (Her hair looks wild because her pigtails came out, and we didn't have water to comb it.)
This is Dallin all the way! What a great shot!
Dallin was AWESOME on the mechanical bull! He was very excited to ride it after the rodeo last night. He actually stayed on the bull the whole time!
Dallin, Sariah, and Daddy at the duck pond.
When we got home, Daddy filled up the kiddie pool and played in the water with the kids while Mom worked on dinner. Later, we ALL crashed, we were so tired! (That never happens, by the way.)
Tonight we lit off our fireworks and sparklers and watched our neighbors take their chances on burning the neighborhood down with their illegal fireworks. Honestly, we didn't even need to go to the big city fireworks celebration--we had our own right next door! (Though I had nightmares of our house going up in flames. Didn't I mention that I'm freaked out by fire???)
