S love to cook! It's something that she seems to have gotten from her birth mother, who is an avid cook. I can hardly make a meal with having a little "helper" by my side. While its very sweet to have a helper, especially such a cute one, it can also be a bit frustrating for both of us, especially when S wants to do something like break eggs or stir something on the hot stove, and I have to be the big ole' meany that tells her she can't.
The other day, I came up with a great solution! We were making pancakes, and while I wanted her to be involved, we were all hungry and I also wanted to get the job done as quickly as possible. I wasn't exactly in the mood to let a determined toddler stir each ingredient for 10 minutes. So I got S her own bowl, and her own whisks. Each time I added an ingredient to my bowl, I added just a tiny bit to hers. There was no risk of a huge mess on the floor if she spilled, she got to feel included, and I got my job done.
Why don't I think of these things earlier?
S likes to cook, and she also likes to eat. Despite any efforts to advance the cause of healthy eating, her favorite foods are still: dogs (hot dogs), kee kees (cookies), canee (candy), teese (cheese), jooss (soda), shoshosh (applesauce--hey, there's a healthy one!, and muk (milk). Milk is healthy too, but probably not when you replace half the days' meals with it!
